The Speckled Band
The plot devices that I found in the story are Chekhov's gun, Frame story, Foreshadowing, and Flashback. I found Chekhov's gun early in the story when Helen tells the detective and his assistant that as her sister was dying, she shouted "It was the band! The speckled band!" It is not until later, that the reader finds out what she meant .I also found an example of a Frame story in the beginning. The author put extra information in the story. I found that Foreshadowing is used when Helen is telling Holmes about the death of her twin sister, Julia. Holmes asks Helen is poison could be the cause for her death, and even though they she says no, they find out later in the story that the cause of Julia's death was from a venomous snake. I discovered Flashback is used in the story when Holmes is talking about how he solved the mystery with Dr. Watson, he thinks back to previous events. And it turns out that Holmes had known about the snake before he had seen it.

I totally agree with you. I also especially saw how he used flashback in the story. it was really cool to read it and later on really get it because of the past references.
