Literary Essay vs. Book report

 Definition of Analysis essay-
An analysis essay examines how a product or activity is composed of separate parts, how the parts function, and how they interact with the other parts to produce a single end result.

Definition of Book Report-
A book report is an exposition giving a short summary of a book and a reaction to it
from the reader.

Book report's are far easier and more fun to write. Why? Because every person wants to add their two cents, their input, their opinions. It's much harder to analyze a work on an unbiased standpoint when there is one character in the story that gets under your skin and lives there. In an analysis essay, you can't use your opinions, thoughts and applications. It has to be black and white and the writer should state not how he feels about the certain situation but how it is. I have an open mind to either book report of analysis essay but obviously, I prefer the easier. I think either or would be fun and challenging but I'm slightly apprehensive about the essay.

  1. I completely get where your coming from. I have a very similar look at the two. I definitely like to go with the easier and; honestly, stay away from the challenging. I am having a hard time with an open mind.

  2. I agree, book reports are much easier than literary analysis. And the outlines for the literary analysis are much different than the ones we did in IEW last year.
