The Stepfather Did It!!!

     Overall, the speckled band is an interesting story.  It was kind of slow to start because it had to have a very long exposition in order to explain the mystery of the "speckled band".   I really enjoyed how every time something was going to happen the author waited until Holmes explained every last detail before he actually said what he had figured out, it kept me on the edge of my seat.  My only issue with this kind of writing was that I found that it leads to a lot of needless details.  As in Helens 8 page life story at the beginning of the book.  Other than that though I thought that the way the stepfather killed the girl was super interesting and the action was awesome.  But it left me with one question.  Why kill the stepdaughters?
